You’re Special

“There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal,” wrote C. S. Lewis. It’s true—each one of us is a special creation of God.

Believe it or not—no one else is just like you. Your physical appearance, your voice and personality traits—your habits, intelligence, personal tastes—all these make you one of a kind. Even your fingerprints distinguish you from every other human being—past, present, or future. You are not the product of some cosmic assembly line; you are unique.

But the most important fact of your identity is that God created you in His own image (Genesis 1:27). He made you so you could share in His creation, could love and laugh and know Him person to person. You are special indeed!

The Bible reveals God’s total interest in you as an individual. The psalmist wrote in one of his most beautiful prayers, “I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). God knew you even before you were born. Then, and now, He has plans just for you, plans conceived in love.

As we appreciate God’s constant concern for us, we really begin to grasp the awfulness of sin. He loves you and me so much; yet how often we go our own way, turning our backs on Him. God’s designs for our lives are then blocked; His mercies do not come to the unwilling.

But even here we are precious to God, for He continues to love us even when we pay Him no mind. He still sees us as individuals with great value. No wonder the psalmist declared, “How precious are Thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand” (Psalm 139:17, 18). God is not an unfeeling, cold-hearted monarch of the heavens. He feels our pains; He shares our sorrows. He cares, and He considers each one of us important enough to love.

In fact, He loves us so much that He gave His only Son to die for our sins. “Herein is love,” the Bible says, “not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation [full payment] for our sins” (1 John 4:10).

Because you and I are special to God, He wants to forgive us and give us a full, meaningful life. When we trust in Jesus Christ and let Him put our lives together, the Bible says that we become “God’s masterpieces, created in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:10, paraphrase). Can anyone be more special than that?

Yes, you are valuable to God! If you have never trusted Jesus Christ for your salvation, you can pray something like this today:

Lord, thank You for sending Jesus Christ to die for my sins and rise from the dead so that I can know Your forgiveness and live with You forever. Right now I ask Him to be my Savior so that I can live as the special creation that You intended me to be.

So let’s get this straight, the solution to ending the issue of “puppy mills” is to CLOSE DOWN EVERY PET STORE IN AMERICA?! Isn’t that what the Humane Society and every “for profit” animal extremist CAPS, ADT and other groups want? YES that’s exactly what they want and this is so wrong in many different ways.

This is not a moral or ethical issue but a freedom issue. This is not a San Diego issue but a right to be an American issue. Since when has it been ok for a very liberal government to decide for the people what the people should be allowed to purchase? We are not selling marijuana here – we are selling healthy, quality, registered with pedigree, guaranteed puppies.

Our industry is HIGHLY regulated starting with extremely regulated breeders and distributors and just like in any industry there are good and bad apples. To punish responsible ethical breeders with a ban on pet stores throughout the country is absolutely outrageous. Should we ban doctors for bad doctors? Should we ban lawyers for bad lawyers? Should we ban pet stores and legitimate breeders for bad pet stores and breeders? The answer is an oblivious and resounding NO!

The argument: Banning pet stores will eliminate bad breeders

The rebuttal: The ban against pet store will not decrease or eliminate “bad apple” breeder but in actuality do the opposite. By shutting down good legitimate pet stores that work with highly regulated legitimate breeders will only force good breeders out of business and the already bad breeders that sell through the black market ie. online pet sales, swap-meets, Craigslist, backyard breeders/brokers will continue to flourish causing even more of a problem.

The argument: Our local animal shelters are being overrun and overpopulated by abandoned pets. Pet stores are adding to the euthanasia rate of shelter animals. “Every puppy bred is a sheltered dog dead”…

The rebuttal: Hardly! Did you know that only 4% of dogs in an animal shelter originated from pet stores? Did you know that 70% of that 4% could have been avoided with proper training? This is why responsible pet stores like San Diego Puppy educate its customers.

The argument: The Humane Society claims 99% of all puppies sold in pet stores are from puppy mills and that no responsible breeder would ever sell to a pet store. “A puppy mill is a commercial breeder period.”

The rebuttal: So the “puppy mill” term is used very liberally by the Humane Society. If you yourself have ever had a litter of puppies and wanted to sell your puppies to a pet store you guessed it you’re a puppy mill and an irresponsible breeder. Here’s our stance if you find a puppy mill (a breeder that is not regulated and does not care for his breeding dogs) shut them down. Don’t punish the ethical, legitimate, regulated breeders that help to preserve and further the breed.

The argument: Look at these videos and pictures of puppy mills – the evidence is overwhelming

The rebuttal: Does a home built in the 1980’s look the same as a home built in 2013? Chances are its newer construction with up to date building codes and regulations right? The same can be said about kennels. The common tactic of the Humane Society and other “for profit” animal extremist is to blast out pictures and videos over the internet of several decade old kennels especially the horrific ones from the 1980’s. Does anyone question those pictures and videos?

On May 1st at the San Diego Committee meeting the CAPS “for profit” organization performed the same tactic showing a video clip of an overcrowded breeder – the date at the bottom of the video 2004. How manipulative and cynical don’t you think?

The argument: Since pet store puppies come from “puppy mills” they are all unhealthy, improperly bred, and or will have all sorts of hereditary defects as the puppy get older. The sick puppy will only lead to heart break and vet bills that the customer will have to pay.

The rebuttal: FACT – Pet store puppies are the most vet checked puppies available. They are vet checked with the breeder, they are vet checked at the distributor when they arrive, they are vet checked as they leave the distributor, they are vet checked as they arrive to the pet store, they are vet checked every two weeks as long as they remain in the store and San Diego Puppy offers its customers two additional free vet checks. So the minimum amount of vet checks a pet store puppy receives is a total of 6 vet checks which practically eliminates the risk of a customer purchasing a puppy with a severe health issues. Additionally every puppy is properly vaccinated and dewormed.

In regard to vet bills California pet stores comply with the Puppy Lemon Law which states that the pet store is responsible to pay up to 150% of the purchase price of the puppy in vet bills. San Diego Puppy has a relationship with 3 veterinarians in San Diego in which any issue, test, medicine, or medical procedure is covered with no out of pocket expense to the customer. If the customer opts to go to their own vet we will reimburse 150% of any and all vet bills.

In summary we say LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE NOT THE BIAS POLITICIANS. If the majority of San Diego disagrees with having a legitimate well run pet store that offers quality puppies from legitimate regulated breeders let them not shop but go adopt. HOWEVER truth be told San Diego Puppy continues to flourish and grow because of its dedication to the community and the repeat and referral customers walking into our doors day after day. Thank you for being a savvy San Diegan and let your city council members know you disagree with the ban on pet stores visit www.SanDiegoPup.com for more information. God bless

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” This famous quote from Romeo and Juliet, the play written by William Shakespeare, encapsulates the tragedy that befalls dog breeders across America today which is, all in a name.

All in the name , the term “puppy mill”? In 2010 as the campaign manager for The Alliance For Truth, a campaign to defeat HSUS’ “Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act” (Prop. B) in Missouri, I learned first hand that HSUS and their animal rights agenda promotes and capitalizes on the term “puppy mill” as a reference to ALL dog breeders. That’s it. ALL dog breeders. It was during the campaign to defeat Prop. B that I recall having to sit in a waiting area at a St. Louis TV station with our opposition’s campaign manager, Barb Schmitz, before going on air. When I asked her how she could possibly justify her claim that Missouri had 3,000 “puppy mills,” she responded by telling me that all breeders are “puppy mills” and they must be closed down.

So there in lies the deception to the American people. HSUS is against breeding. Period. So any breeding facility, commercial or otherwise, is considered to be a “puppy mill” because of the emphasis on breeding and making a profit. No matter how well the breeder cares for thier dogs, HSUS doesn’t want legitimate, lawful dog breeders making a living or any kind of a profit breeding dogs. So they vilify.

So while dog breeders jump though hoops to stay in business, it is impossible for them to keep up with all the onerous business killing regulations aggressively promoted by HSUS though lobbying, ballot initiatives and infiltration into government agencies. The fact of the matter is that the end goal is NOT about creating better welfare standards for breeding facilities — it’s about eliminating the breeders. And that’s the animal rights agenda and goal: the elimination of animal ownership.

Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of HSUS illustrates this goal in his quote, “one generation and out. We have no problem with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding. ” Wayne, Animal People, Ma, 1993.

Those two little words “puppy mill” pack a punch, and they continue to destroy exceptional kennels across America by chipping away at the public’s view of dog breeding because, in the eyes of HSUS and other animal rights groups, ALL dog breeders are considered to be a “puppy mill”. This serves as an important reminder as our Attorney General, Chris Koster has the support of HSUS and continues to campaign on the nortion that Missouri is the “puppy mill captital.” (Accordingly, don’t forget to vote for Ed Martin for attorney General!)

Calling every dog breeder a “puppy mill” is like labeling every football coach a pedophile because of what happened at Penn State. Sadly, those of us who are involved in animal agriculture are going to be in a public relations battle to defend animal husbandry for the rest of our lives, so we must start by no longer referring to a substandard breeder as a “puppy mill.” if we continue to use that term, we are perpetuating the false HSUS propaganda, and helping Pacelle and his minions drive all or us off the not so symbolic cliff.

Dear Savvy San Diego Citizens,

As you may know the animal rights extremists are trying to pass a ban against pet stores in San Diego. They’re over all agenda is to close all pet stores down in the United States. They simply want you to adopt and that’s it! We don’t discourage adoption. If you have the heart to do so go for it, but you should have the right to choose to adopt or purchase a puppy for a legitimate pet store like San Diego Puppy that works with legitimate quality breeders.

Will you fight for your right to choose!?

*Update*

A sad day for the community of San Diego. On May 1st it was very evident that the city councilors had already made up their mind on pushing this ordinance to full council. We never thought that a city council could be so bias and unbalanced – how sad and shameful and most of all how very disturbing.

Here is the video link to the hearing on May 1st: http://granicus.sandiego.gov/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=15

*So What’s Next*

All though the animal rights extremist may have one this round the fight is definitely not over. The hearing on May 1st was to push the ordinance one more final step forward to the last city council meeting where all 8 city council members will get a chance to vote for this ordinance.

The final hearing will be JULY 9TH. This gives San Diego very little time to do their part. Please read below and make sure you let them know very clearly that SAN DIEGO DESERVES A CHOICE TO ADOPT OR PURCHASE A QUALITY PUPPY!

*Here’s How You Can Fight For Your Rights*

1. Please call the city council members at the numbers below and let them know that you support San Diego Puppy.

The City of San Diego consistently ranks among the Top 15 pet-friendly cities across the United States. In fact, in December of 2012, Travel + Leisure ranked San Diego #2, scoring a mere fraction behind #1 Portland, Oregon, for best pet-friendly vacation.

But is it, really?

The San Diego City Council is considering a ban on the sale of pets in San Diego’s pet stores. Limiting consumer choice, denying homes to purebred animals and closing down pet stores does not sound very ‘pet-friendly’ to me.

Pet stores are sometimes vilified in the name of animal welfare. What activists don’t want you to know is that closing down pet stores that sell live animals does absolutely nothing to better animal welfare. In fact, closing pet stores would force the sale of live animals on the black market where animal welfare regulations would be meaningless. But animal activists would rather not listen to this because by closing down pet stores, they bask in a false sense of righteousness. As a part of the pet industry I know better.

There are thousands of individuals just like me across America. We all grew up with pets – everything from lizards and fish to puppies, cats and rabbits. We loved animals so much we chose to share that devotion by making healthy animals available to families everywhere. Being able to visit a puppy or kitten is a right of passage for children who often get their first interaction with an animal at a pet store. It is where children of all ages learn how to properly hold an animal, learn about its dietary habits and care.

I am equally supportive of rescue organizations and adoption of homeless pets through shelters. In a free market environment, it is essential that citizens be allowed the freedom to choose how they wish to add to their family with a pet.

I also understand that there are animals wandering the streets because of bad owners and so-called “backyard breeders.” These backyard breeders, whose standards are non-existent and unregulated and whose only interest is to make money under the radar, will produce a potentially unhealthy animal. Those few bad actors, however, have nothing to do with the sale of dogs and cats in regulated pet stores.

The public receives protections from the regulations that guide pet store operations. In addition, many pets come with warranties – another protection for the consumer. The preeminent study on pet store animals, conducted at Cornell University, demonstrates that nobody provides healthier puppies than pet stores and few puppies purchased from pet stores wind up in a shelter or at a rescue organization.

As someone who has dedicated their lives to animals, it is insulting to hear such criticisms about my business and my industry. We work very hard to maintain high standards of care, address any health issues early on and educate the public about the care of their potential pet. People in the pet industry love the animals in their care.

Unfortunately, it will not only be consumers and animals that will suffer should this proposed ban be approved. This is a retail sector. Investments have been made, leases need to be paid, and people rely on these jobs and to support their families. In this economy, it is unconscionable that our city leadership would entertain this idea at all. The focus on this particular segment of our economy– a niche that cannot morph itself into another type of retail on command is unfortunate and, in the end, does not result in any kind of real protection for animals. What it does is harm legitimate businesses and it puts employees and storeowners out of work.

This is a win for absolutely no one. Do not be lulled into some sense of false security about all animals being saved. It is simply untrue. If you really want to help animals, you will oppose the closing of pet stores in your city, you will engage your free time in helping rescue and shelter organizations in your community and you will educate yourself about the USDA’s implementation of the Animal Welfare Act which has been in effect since 1966 and to which amendments have been made since that time expanding regulation to those who breed and sell pets. So, before we start closing retail outlets in our ‘pet-friendly’ city, perhaps proponents of this potential ban might invest some time in educating themselves about the pet industry’s commitment to animals before they try to dismantle a retail system that works to protect pets and their prospective owners.

Stand up and fight the good fight sign our petition and let the city council members know that you support San Diego Puppy

For those who will buy Maltipoo puppies, it is important to note that all dogs are susceptible to Leptospirosis. This is a bacterial infection caused by spirochetes which penetrate dogs’ skin and spreads throughout the body via the bloodstream. It attacks the liver, kidneys, central nervous system, eyes and the reproductive system of the affected dog.

Common symptoms of infection include sudden fever and illness, sore muscles, reluctance to move, stiffness in muscles, legs, stiff gait, shivering, weakness, depression, lack of appetite, increased thirst and urination, may be indicative of chronic renal (kidney) failure, progressing to inability to urinate, rapid dehydration, vomiting, possibly with blood, diarrhea – with or without blood in stool, bloody vaginal discharge, dark red speckled gums (petechiae), yellow skin and/or whites of eyes – anemic symptoms, spontaneous cough, difficulty breathing, fast breathing, irregular pulse, runny nose, swelling of the mucous membrane, and mild swelling of the lymph nodes.

This infection is treated through antibiotics that can kill the Leptospira bacteria. Pet owners are advised that the earlier the treatment is, the higher the chance of recovery is for their furry friend.

On the other hand, there is also a preventive measure for Leptospirosis in the form of vaccines. These, however, do not provide long term immunity and must be repeated often

If you are getting your new dog from Maltipoo breeders, make sure that your new furry friend is protected from this infection.

Rabies is a contagious and deadly viral disease that causes acute encephalitis in infected organisms. As a preventive measure, the law requires all domestic dogs to be vaccinated to protect not only the pet but also its owner. For those who have recently bought a Chihuahua, a Maltipoo puppy, or any other breed of young dog, it is important to remember to have them vaccinated for this disease.

The vaccine for rabies does not prevent rabies per se but instead triggers an immune response in a dog’s body— that is producing antibodies that fight off the virus. Usually, pets that receive an anti-rabies shot has a rapid and potent immune response that he can be protected for fourteen days after the vaccine was administered. This preventive measure is considered 100% effective if administered properly.

According to experts, a puppy should receive its first rabies vaccination between 16 and 26 weeks of age. Ideally, a rabies booster must be administered one year later. Booster protocols vary from State to State and pet owners should consult with their local clinics for scheduling and other important information regarding anti-rabies shots.

After funding the perfect puppy to buy, pet owners must learn how to crate train their dogs. This is an important step in house-training a poodle, a maltipoo, or any other dog. Crates allow dogs to have a secure and quiet place to stay when travelling or when they are left alone at home.

For those who are worried about crate training, it is worth noting that dogs are den animals meaning spaces like crates act as a place for them to sleep in, hide from danger, and even raise a family.

Here are a few things to remember when training puppies for a crate:

It must be used properly or a dog can feel trapped or frustrated.

It shouldn’t be used as a punishment.

Never leave a dog inside a crate for too long.

Dogs are not going to soil their dens so never leave young pups inside for longer than three hours since they have weaker bladder control.

Crate training requires patience on the part of the dog owner. Dogs need to be accustomed to using their crates and that requires time and some work. The best way to approach this is to associate pleasant things like toys, treats, and even meals with the crate. In time, a dog will learn to stay in it when needed.

As you acquire a Mini Schnauzer for sale or Pomeranians for sale, you will know that a dog’s skin tells a lot about its overall health condition. However, all dogs are susceptible to skin problems because of the wide range of causes including external parasites, infections, allergies, metabolic problems, and stress.

Symptoms that indicate that a dog has skin problems include excessive scratching or chewing of skin, scabs, redness and inflammation, scaly patches on the face or paws, bald patches, rashes, lesions, swelling, lumps, or skin discoloration.

When a dog has any of the above symptoms, it may be experiencing any of the following:

Fleas— Pets may have allergic reactions to the saliva of these parasites. Moreover, some are also sensitive to flea treatment products.

Skin Infections— This may be caused by bacteria or yeast due to skin damage secondary to pre-existing skin disorders.

Sarcoptic Mange—This is triggered by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite and cause skin inflammation and other similar allergic response.

Ring Worm— This is a highly contagious fungal infection that results in inflammation, scaly patches, and hair loss. It should be treated as quickly as possible.

Seasonal Allergies— Like people, some dogs are also sensitive to allergens that may cause a disturbance in a pet’s skin condition.
